Himantopus himantopus, Commonly known as Black-winged Stilt belongs to family Recurvirostridae is a migratory bird. They have a fine black bill with pink legs longer than the body. The occurrence of this bird is an indicator to polluted waterbodies. This bird feeds on invertebrates like snails. Their nesting period is from April to August and has open cup type nests, parental care is given to offsprings. An average Stilt life span is about 10 years. Their population is increasing and have "least concern" conservation status.
